Welcome to Thessaloniki! Below you will find practical information on how to arrive to Thessaloniki to ensure that you have a fantastic time at the EUF OpenSpace 2018.

How to reach Thessaloniki

You can easily reach Thessaloniki by air, train, road or sea. The Macedonia International Airport is not far from the city centre and the international train station offers train connections to other Greek cities.

The conference building is the Old Building of the Faculty of Philosophy, located at the University Campus, 54124 Thessaloniki.

By plane

The Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTH) operates bus number 78 and 78N between the Macedonia International Airport and Macedonia Intercity Bus Station (KTEL). A single ticket (2,00 €) can be purchased from the vending machine on the bus, but keep in mind that the machine does not return change. Visit the OASTH website for the timetable of airport buses.

The taxi fare to the city centre is approximately 15-20 € from 5:00 am to 00:00 pm, while from 00:00 pm to 5:00 am expect to be charged an extra 10 € for this route.

By boat

Thessaloniki’s port is a major passenger terminal and is connected by other major ports and islands. More information on the Thessaloniki Port Authority’s website.

By train

Thessaloniki’s Railway Station is centrally located (28, Monastiriou street) and is connected with the rest of the city via public transportation. For travelling from Athens, we recommend to take the IC trains with a journey time of 5:30 h. Train timetables and routes are available on the National Railway Company’s website.

Public transport

Public transport in Thessaloniki is served exclusively by buses: the bus company operating in the city is the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTH). All the information concerning timetables, real time departures or route information is available on the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization’s website. You can also download the mobile phone app for iOS and Android here.

Public transport fees

You can purchase a ticket at the OASTH’s ticket booths, at the partner shops or by the vending machines inside the buses. A regular single trip ticket cost 1,00 € when purchased at a point of sale. Two-trip 70-minute tickets (1,20 €) and three-trip 90-minute tickets (1,50 €) are also available.
