About the city of Thessaloniki

It’s easy to fall in love with the rich history and cosmopolitan character of Thessaloniki. Located on the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea, the second largest city of Greece has numerous archaeological sites, museums, Byzantine and Ottoman monuments, popular beaches and traditional markets. Close to Thessaloniki, you may also find the Axios Delta National Park, the Lagadas Baths or the beautiful beaches of Halkidiki. More information here.

During our guided tour, we will take the bus and head towards the Upper City of Thessaloniki. We will pass in front of the Old Building of the Philosophical School, the first premises of the University, and the Rotunda, the circular roman temple of the 4th c. AD, which belongs to the same building complex with the Arch of Galerius and his palace. We will continue parallel to the imposing fortification walls of the city of Thessaloniki and finally reach the Chain Tower, where we will get off the bus and enjoy the view over the city and the Thermaic Gulf. From then on the journey is on foot*. We will walk through the traditional neighborhood of the Upper City until the church of Saint Demetrius, the patron saint of Thessaloniki. Afterwards, the visit continues towards the sea front where we can see the archaeological site of the Roman Forum and the Aristotelous Square, on Egnatia Street.
